Last month we had Isla’s First Birthday Party…and a party it was! People are still talking about it. We went with a theme and when I say theme I mean that we went with colours of pink and yellow and used the song “You Are My Sunshine” as her theme. I know she is too young to have a specific interest that we would want to incorporate into her party so we thought we would stick with some bright colours and call it “You Are My Sunshine” First Birthday Party because let’s face it! That’s totally what she is. She is a ray of light in our lives and makes our days perfect and bright. The day was about celebration and love so it seemed to fit well.
We had everyone over on a Sunday afternoon and held the festivities in our backyard. I was praying every single day that we would get a beautiful day with no rain and it was perfect. A little hotter then expected but at least there was no rain. I am not complaining! We had about 30 friends and family join us for food, fun and of course to spoil and admire the birthday girl. She was fantastic! I am always amazed at how Isla can just go with the flow and be around numerous people with lots of chatting and passing around and new things going on but she always seems to excel in those situations. Towards the end of her party she was starting to get upset but it was almost her naptime and by that time everyone can get a little grumpy.
I did A LOT of DIY for this party. I started planning and preparing months in advance so I would have enough time to make things on my own and try not to go into debt while planning this party.
I had so much fun putting it all together and I was so pleased with how everything looked! Thank goodness for my mom, sister and Dana who kept me somewhat sane the morning of and helped me to execute my vision.
Here are some of the pretty details from the day.
|The favor boxes were purchased from Party Stock.
Isla’s Birthday Hat was made by me and you can customize them and purchase them from my Etsy store. The “You are my sunshine” invitations were purchased from SunshineParties on Etsy.
|The goodie boxes will filled with candies and each were wrapped
in pink ribbon with a “Thank You” note that I made.
|A close up of the invitations that were made on Etsy. They are a downloadable
file so it is a very cost effective way to get some great invites.
|I purchased the Honeycomb balls from Party Stock and had
them lined on the tree branches at the front of our house.
|Isla’s chair was decorated with a ONE banner that
I made out of scrapbook paper, ribbon and tissue tassel garlands.
|The backdrop I made with streamers. I also made her birthday banner,
the tissue poms, the fans and the tassel garland. Attached onto each tassel are pictures of Isla growing month by month which were purchased from Printsagram.
|My DIY tissue poms and fans. You can find the tutorial for the fans here.|
|Chalkboard design I did up for the day.|
|I added some other pictures of Isla on the main table and had a “Wish Jar”
that I asked everyone to leave a note for Isla with their hopes and wishes for her future. It was so nice sitting down and reading them to her on her actual birthday.
|Tables and chairs set up in the backyard which we rented
from Kingston Party Rentals.
|Yellow flowers for centerpieces.|
|The “Isla First Birthday” Chalkboard was done by Pretty ‘n Paper
and her newborn and 1 Year photos were done by Jason Kelly Photography.
|The “Sunshine” punch was a hit! It was made with
mango and pineapple juices, 7up and water. We also served some finger foods like meatballs, chicken skewers, fruit and vegetables.
|‘I’ and ‘1’ balloon that were purchased from VivaRosa on Etsy.|
I hope you enjoyed looking at Isla’s pictures as much as I had fun creating this special day for her and our family!
