How To: Keep Your Little Ones Warm in the Winter

I love Canada but man does it ever get cold here in the winter time! This last week we have had a real deep freeze with the temperatures dropping to -30 with the windchill at night! Needless to say, it takes a few extra minutes to get Isla ready in the morning during these cold months.

Here’s what we are doing to keep Isla comfortable and warm during the winter!

1. Lots of Layers – This is super important and it can’t be stressed enough. Isla can usually be spotted wearing 2 pairs of socks, 2-3 pairs of leggings, a onesie, a long sleeved shirt and a sweater. This is her base for a cold day.

2. Warm Hat & Mitts – Isla has quite the assortment of hats and mitts. Some fit well and others not so much. I always make sure she is wearing a headband to cover her ears and then a hat that can be tied up around her chin. Two pairs of mitts are also used to keep her little hands toasty.

3. Snowsuit & Scarf – In the fall I was able to find Isla a barely used Columbia snowsuit for a whopping $8.00. It’s in perfect condition and when its put on over her layers of clothing, there is no way this girl will get cold. We also add a scarf to the assemble that I tie around the back of her so that way it’s kept up over her face for those super chilly days.

4. Waterproof Winter Boots – These are probably the most important thing to have because when your feet get cold, then everything gets cold. Waterproof boots with a wool inside that have enough room for lots of layers of socks are also important.

What do you do to keep your kids warm when the weather is cool? Any secrets you care to share?
