My Turquoise Home

Our Weekend

I have always enjoyed weekends. Seriously, who doesn’t love them?! However, I hate when Sunday night rolls around because that means it’s back to work tomorrow. I wish the weekends didn’t fly by so quickly. Time just always seems to slip away. After having a child, I definitely try to make the weekends fun and meaningful for us.

Friday was a relaxing evening. We had dinner as a family, had a tea party and then put Isla to sleep. Dana and I had a couple beers together, watched some PVR and eventually ended the night by listening and singing our hearts out to Luke Bryan. Not because of the beers but because he is awesome and “I See You” is a great song!

Saturday morning Isla slept in and my parents drove up to spend the day with us. Well mostly with Isla but Dana and I were there too! LOL! We went downtown Kingston, went to a couple of shops, took a stroll through Market Square and then went to The Pilot House for lunch. If you have never been, you must go. They have the best fish and chips you will ever have! Isla enjoyed it as well and loved dipping her lemon in the ketchup. Don’t ask! Girl loves her ketchup and apparently lemons now.

She sleeps the oddest ways!
Grandparents at play!

Ketchup and lemons! Who knew!?

We headed back home a little after 1pm so that Isla could have her nap. She slept for a couple of hours and we all vegged out on the couch and watched a movie. Isla got up soon after and my Dad got dinner ready while Dana and I went out to get some groceries. My Dad makes the most delicious gluten free Lasagna so that’s what we were spoiled with. Isla also loves these baked beans her Gramps makes so he brought down a special batch for her and she chowed down on those too. Dana and I were able to have a bit of a break and my mom and dad bathed and put her to bed. Then we had to say our goodbyes. I am always sad to see them leave.

Dana had to work Sunday morning so Isla and I had breakfast and spent the day at home. We spent some time outside, Isla helped me do some laundry and then she had a big 3 hour nap! I took advantage of that and read some magazines, did my nails FINALLY and started to read No-Drama Discipline. When she got up, Dana was home and we had dinner, put one of Isla’s new Vtech Shopping Cart from Christmas and Isla helped me setup my new tripod and camera.

What did you do this weekend? I hope it was great and you were able to make some memories!

    Hey Melissa,

Just wondering, and you have mentioned before the 'gluten free' diet? Is it just a choice of yours? Or does someone have the allergy? I'm wondering this, because my mother in-law has celiac and it would be great to have a few recipes if you don't mind sharing??

Hi There! Thanks for your comment. The gluten sensitivity gene actually runs in our family so we decided to start Isla off on that foot as well. She will be getting tested for it but right now we try to limit the amount of gluten she eats. I also try to stick to gluten free as much as possible and always notice a real difference when I decide to eat wheat or anything like that. I am not much of a cook so we have our go to gluten free pastas, pizza, waffles and toast. I have been trying to write a post regarding our choice for a while and I will try to get something up soon with some recipes! Thanks for reading!

I read a book awhile back – Brain Rules For Babies – that may be similar to the No-Drama Discipline. Took a look at how a baby/child's brain develops and reacts to stress, discipline, bribes, etc.
