There are some pretty cool things out there for expectant mothers these days. I remember when I first found out I was pregnant with our second, I immediately thought about how I was going to have to shell out a bunch of money for a new winter coat to fit my big baby bump. I started searching around the last couple of months before winter hit and realized that anything decent out there would cost me anywhere between $200 and $300. Not outrageous if I was going to put it to use every winter for the next few years but I knew that wouldn’t be the case. I also thought about waiting for markdowns but also knew that I would put me in a spot where I would be freezing my bump off waiting for the coat I wanted to go down in price.
I did some research and found a Canadian company called “Make My Belly Fit“. The family has 3 kids, they are from Montreal and the creator appeared on Dragon’s Den and got a deal! It was exactly what I had been looking for.You can purchase it online and in some stores. I was able to find mine at Hip Kids here in Kingston so very awesome to support two Canadian businesses. Basically this product is an insert that you zip in to your coat. Genius right?! There is also a layer you can get if you would like that little bit of extra warmth. When you initially attach it to your coat it can be a little odd looking having this huge extra panel staring back at you but the great thing is that the insert comes with buttons so at this point I need the extra room but not enough that I need the whole insert visible. All I have to do is button the buttons together to give me the exact amount of room I need.
One thing I will say about this product is that when I was initially looking into it, it mentioned that the insert would fit most coats and their existing zippers so I purchased just the insert. When I purchased it in store I was told about the adapters and that they could be purchased on the companies website if needed. I bought it and prayed all the way home that it would fit into my current zipper. Of course that was not the case so I went onto the website. There are tons of different zipper adapters you can get ranging from $6.00 and up and I was worried about choosing the right one. Luckily they had a quiz you could take to see what zipper is right for your coat. It told me the M2 adapter was what I needed for $18.00…of course it had to be the most popular one and was sold out. This is where I got annoyed. I could give them my email to be notified when it was back in stock so I did that. A couple of hours later I get an email from the company saying that it will be available in 3 weeks and they would notify me then. I checked back a couple of weeks later just to see if it happened to be back in stock and it was. Needless to say I was little thrown off that I had not been notified like I was supposed to be. With my bump getting bigger by the day I desperately needed that adapter. Either way, I ordered it right away, paid the $7.00 for shipping and got it 3 business days later which I was happy about.
Now that I finally have it I love it! The adapters were easy to attach and I love the extra room it has added to my coat. I love the extra buttons and that it will continue to grow with my belly. I feel like it also adds a bit of pizzazz to my current coat without being too maternity. All in all it is well worth the price of $70 even if you have to purchase the extra adapter. This is a win for me and I hope it is for you too if you are in the market to make your belly fit!
