My Turquoise Home

4 Day Mommy Vacay

I have spent the last 4 days childless. I wish I could tell ya that each day was filled with trips to the mall and strolling around town with girlfriends while we sipped cosmos but it wasn’t all that glamorous. Here is how my time was spent.

Day 1

I got home from work and sat on the couch. I didn’t rush to daycare and I didn’t have to make sure dinner was put on the table. I freshened up and went over to my friend Mack’s house. We had wine, Thai food, chatted about everything and only talked about Isla a few times. I was very proud of myself. I still was home and in bed by 10:30. I can’t be too crazy now. I still had to work in the morning.

Day 2

I woke up at 7:45am….say what?! Yes, I woke up with just enough time to throw on some makeup, down a cup of coffee and brush my teeth. Oh and put on a nice blouse and a pair of pants so I could at least pretend like I was put together. I didn’t have to worry about looking after anybody but myself. I am pretty sure that when I left, Dana was still in bed!

After work, I picked up some groceries, made myself dinner and then sat in the back yard most of the evening, sitting on my swing and reading my book….did you hear that?! Exactly! Nothing but my own thoughts and a good book. I won’t get use to it but damn it was nice!

Day 3

I managed to get my butt out of bed a bit earlier, shower and I sat down at the table and drank my whole cup of coffee while watching the “Today Show”. It was heavenly. Our dog Marley even got a morning walk!

At night I swept and mopped the floors and did a couple loads of laundry. Glamorous I know but it was nice to get it all done. I ended the night with “Big Brother” and a bubble bath. No rubber ducks floating around this bath! Just bubbles and the flicker of a candle.
Day 4
I took the day off of work. I wanted so badly to sleep in until noon like I did in my early twenties but of course that didn’t happen. I finally got out of bed at 9am, made myself a coffee and watched episodes of Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix until noon. Don’t judge ok?! I felt like being lazy. I finally got myself showered up and made my way into the back yard. Armed with water, sunscreen and Isla’s kiddy pool I sat out in the yard, got some sun and finished the book “Make it Happen“. If there was one thing I wanted to do with my free time it was to finish this book and am I ever glad I did. Honestly, if you need some motivation and guidance on just about anything, you have to read this book. It is fantastic and Lara Casey is amazing!
I also managed to reorganize a few things in our bedroom, work on some blog posts and cook Dana and I dinner. We ended our night by hitting up a pub downtown, listening to some live music and hoping to catch a glimmer of the blue moon out by the waterfront.
Day 5
I am up bright and early and on my way to see Isla! We are spending the rest of the long weekend at my parents and I can’t wait to see her! I have come to a conclusion about the last 4 days. Life is pretty boring without her around! See you soon sweet girl!!!
